Monday Mario

Yesterday was the annual BunnyFest!!  We went last year and it was a lot of fun and very informative.  My parents are in town visiting so I had planned to make it to the second half of the BunnyFest day.  There were two veterinarian speakers I wanted to listen to and I wanted to be there for the raffle.

Side note:  We went to the Computer History Museum (great museum in Mountain View) in the morning and saw this:

Nothing like seeing your favorite childhold toy behind glass in a *museum* to make you feel old.  To make myself feel better, the very first display (chronological order) in the museum had a slide rule which my dad said he used in college.  That's right!  Shock of all shockers there were no calculators when my dad was in college.  Gah.

Lots of fun booths with bunny stuff for sale.

Bunnies for petting (Again, LOTS of people brought their rabbits which I just don't get.  Rabbits don't strike me as pets that take well to being brought to strange environments with lots of crowds/other rabbits. But the bunny eye candy was pretty cute).

Mario's bounty (those treats are actually DOG treats! I didn't notice until I got home.  But they are made with all plant-based things so guess it will work)

I was especially excited about the Teach 'n Treat.  It is an enrichment toy you hide treats in and the rabbit has to use his brain a bit to get them out.  It touts "Foraging Fun!" There are escalating levels of difficulty. I started Mario off on the easiest level.  The blue circular piece in the center slides around to reveal the treat wells below.  Mario needed a little help but was able to figure it out.  I was so proud!

I wish we had a BunnyFest!

I bought Cadbury something similar to the Teach n' Treat off the bunspace website. He got the treat exactly once and hasn't repeated the event. I don't know if this means he's hopelessly dumb, or if he's dumb like a fox and knows if he acts like he can't get the treat, I'll eventually remove the obstacle myself.

My rabbit would have moved quickly to the "slam the toy against the wall and then jump up and down it until it surrenders the food" strategy. He didn't have a lot of patience or finesse.

Dog treats that are safe for rabbits? I need those, treat all the kids at once!

Enrichment is good. Treats are good. Enrichment + treats = win!

I think some bunnies do take to traveling and being in strange places and being handled. I think if that happened when they were young then some enjoy it. I have been to events where there is a big square made from hay bales for the floor and two layers of bales for the sides. People bring their rabbits and go in there and let them hop around and up on the sides - they seem to all get along or else leave each other alone and enjoy strangers pettting them!

Listen youngster - we didn't have digital watches or garmins or cds or portable tape recorders either!

Mario is ubber smart and that is all there is to it!

That toy looks really neat. I'm going to have to google it and see if I can find one!

A Nintendo in a museum?? Wow, I feel old too. I still remember getting that for Christmas one year! My brother and I were soooo excited!
